Iced photographs
Archives amoureuses is a project built around photographs of lovers found in antiques shops, second-hand stores, or on the ground after flea markets. All these photographs depict what seemed to the artist - depending on the context and annotations - to be photographs of love. The melancholy of these forgotten, abandoned romantic connections was the main inspiration for this photographic work. To capture love on a photograph is to freeze time on a photosensitive surface, and to create a lasting trace of it.
This project embodies the idea that connections of love can be anchored in ice - and thus preserved from the ravages of time - but are also as fragile and destructible as this material is. This duality invites us to question our own shifting interpersonal links and love connections, and what the utopia of preserving love or the photographic object implies in itself.
