Inner Geography

Exhibited at TivoliVredenburg, November 2021 for Le Guess Who? festival

“Where do our minds wander and live?”

This work poses the question of what inwardly fills us; scenes, sounds, images of places that we explored or lived through. This private topography is a component of us and shapes the way that we take root in or interact with a space - a remembrance somehow persists. Past geographies often remain below the surface of our consciousness, obscured by our mind taking focus on the present spaces that we find ourselves in.

Inner Geography is an attempt to map this subjective and dreamed geography that is overlapping the one we are anchored in. This goes through a perambulation among some faces and stories of the people of Utrecht.

Looking at these mixed media photographs, we are invited to reflect on our own interior landscapes and to wonder how we are taking root in a space.
